Subnautica Game Research

 Subnautica Research:

The game titled Subnautica released in 2014 is a full horror adventure game based under the sea filled with marine life and creatures. I am having a look below at the concept art for the game prior to the release to get an idea of concept art underwater this will include looking at corals and Flora as I would like to include some of that in my work.

The first piece I'm looking at drawn by Cory Strader the art director of the game Titled bulb zone is the work of the main character who appears to be a diver diving deep into the bed of the ocean surrounded by many corals and weird underwater fungi and plants, it is straighter uses purple as to convey danger as purple and video games usually refer to harm or damaging the player.  this is an interesting way to show us that what lies down under the sea in this video game isn't necessarily passive even though it may look aesthetically pleasing,  this is worth noting when creating my own work.

The next piece of work I am looking at which appears to be a giant coral Tree Under the water is a great representation of concept art for the ocean and marine life there appears to be an interesting weird quirky fish and many other mushrooms and plants seaweed and flora alike to create this beautiful habitat for which the player can explore in the game.  it is clear that this game is taking a more aesthetically pleasing and beautiful path to the ocean which creates irony as in this game the ocean is very dangerous and harmful to the player it is also very colorful with colors like purple pink etc,  I believe this is done on purpose as in nature very bright colors or usually exhibited by dangerous species and poisonous species to warn other predators not to attack them.

The third piece I am looking at titled “Alien V1” which I believe stands for version 1 is a very simple form of concept art of the diver once again under the water but in what seems to be very big size plants and animal life compared to the player.  I believe this is also done on purpose to emphasize the danger that comes with exploring these uncharted waters.

  1. Much better in terms of how you have directed this post and used the information towards your idea. Really need to see how the research overall you have done so far is impacting your project - this should be through sketches (hand made or digital), notes on developing your work, planning of your 3D work including materials to use and process of making your outcomes. So far there is not much in the way of visual ideas of your own. Although it is late, show how this project is developing.
